The return of the Alexa bag by Mulberry

The English brand revisits the it-bag of the 2000s with a new sustainable touch

The return of the Alexa bag by Mulberry The English brand revisits the it-bag of the 2000s with a new sustainable touch

Before Telfar Shopping Bag or Jacquemus Chiquito, there was Mulberry's Alexa. Now, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Somerset brand, the bag that every girl wanted in early 2010s is back in an updated and sustainable version.

The Alexa bag was born in winter 2010 as a tribute to it-girl and TV host Alexa Chung. At that time the influencer was often photographed with Elkington, the British brand's classic men's briefcase, so former creative director Emma Hill had the idea to create a feminine version inspired by Chung's effortless cool style. The result was a bag combining two essentials of Mulberry's accessories: Elkington's chic and Bayswater's classic minimalism, with the addition of some new elements such as folding buckles; the woven leather handle and shoulder strap. As soon as it hit the market, Alexa became a must-have accessory, worn by celebrities and fashion bloggers such as Chiara FerragniOlivia PalermoSarah Jessica ParkerKatie HolmesLeighton MeesterBlake Lively and the Principessa Eugenie di York. If you didn't have one, you wanted one.

The 2020 model, reflecting the brand's commitment to responsible innovation, is made with leather from environmentally accredited tanneries in the UK's carbon-neutral brand factories.

We always knew that sustainable updates would be key to ensuring this bag still feels modern and relevant today. - Thierry Andretta, CEO of Mulberry said -We’ve been very focused on improving the sustainability of our products across the entire range and it was vital that when we re-launched the Alexa that we updated it with the same level of attention to detail and responsibility commitments. For us it’s about timelessness, which is often the sign of a true cult classic. We aim to create bags that transcend the generations.

The iconic silhouette remains, and it is declined in a new range of colors, from earth-neutral to the brightest in three dimensions to choose from: mini cute, classic medium and oversize.

The new Mulberry Alexa bag collection is available online and in the brand's stores.
