When location is everything

Celebrities' most beautiful beach weddings When location is everything

The sun setting, turning the sky red as it seems to dip into the waves, the blue sea intoxicating the air with salt and magic, bare feet sinking into the sand, and the person you love by your side. Is there anything more romantic than that? The allure of beach weddings is irresistible and has captivated so many celebrity couples over the years, from Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love to Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Despite the beauty of the ceremony, some of these unions didn't end with the classic happy ending, but that doesn't change the love that was exchanged at the moment of the vows.

G-club has selected the most beautiful celebrity beach weddings. Which one is your favourite?

On 24 February 1992, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were married at sunset on the beach in Waikiki, Hawaii. It's a small ceremony performed by a non-denominational minister in front of only eight people present, a few friends, Rodies and Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. He's wearing green flannel pyjamas and a small shoulder bag; she, a few weeks pregnant with daughter Frances Bean Cobain, has chosen a vintage silk and lace dress that belonged to actress and outsider icon Frances Farmer (if you want to know more about her, check out the 1982 autobiographical film Frances). So Kurt and Courtney entered the legend of history's greatest and most turbulent loves, but also of romantically unconventional ceremonies.

On 29 May 1998, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber said yes to each other on the beach at Paradise Island in the Bahamas in a private ceremony that was kept secret from the press. The two arrived on the beach hand in hand and barefoot. He wore a linen shirt and loose-fitting trousers, while she opted for a short slip dress with lace detailing by John Galliano, minimal make-up and beach wave hair. In her hands she held an elegant bouquet of white flowers. After the ceremony, the two slipped into a swimming costume and took a dip in the pool to celebrate. Twenty-five years later, the two are still together and Cindy always remembers the wedding day by posting a few snapshots (by Arthur Elgort) of the event.

Before marrying JLo, Ben Affleck said yes to another Jennifer, Jennifer Garner. The two met while filming Pearl Harbour and became friends on the set of Daredevil. At the time, he was engaged to Lopez and she was married to fellow actor Scott Foley. A few months after their respective relationships ended, the two began a love story, in between dates to Red Sox games and lots of emails (Affleck apparently won Garner over with his prose). They married on 29 June 2005 in a private ceremony on Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos. Jennifer, who was three months pregnant with their first daughter, wore a white empire-style dress with a green sash around her waist. They announced their divorce in June 2015, but apparently continued to get on very well.

On 24 June 2010, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green were married on the Hawaiian island of Maui. On the beach, only the celebrant and the actor's 8-year-old son, Kassius, were present. The private, minimalist and romantic ceremony included all-white outfits for everyone: Megan wore a strapless suit by Armani Privé, while the groom opted for a simple suit by Emporio Armani. A curiosity? The wedding rings were encased in a shell. Megan and Brian divorced in 2020.

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard, Bahamas

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011 and married in 2015 on the actor's private island in the Bahamas, on the beach at Little Hall's Pond Cay. Heard wore a white veil and a long-sleeved Stella McCartney dress, while Depp wore a white dinner jacket with white shoes and black trousers. According to reports, "Guests relaxed on the beaches, snorkelled and enjoyed food prepared by private chefs." In 2016, the couple divorced and fought until the infamous defamation trial that pitted them against each other in court.

Okay, the location wasn't right on the beach, but it did offer a view of the Mediterranean. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz said their vows on 31 July 2010 at their villa in Corsica in front of wedding officiant Deepak Chopra, family members and close friends, including Queen Latifah and Bono. Alicia, who was pregnant with her first child, chose an asymmetrical Vera Wang gown and a bejewelled tiara that flowed over her forehead for her wedding, while her husband Swizz wore a dinner jacket with a white jacket by Tom Ford.
