The Fugglers invaded New York Fashion Week What are they? What do they want from us?
During New York Fashion Week, colorful creatures invaded the corner between Spring Street and Crosby Street. They had not been invited to walk on the runway, and yet, they stole the show. From September 10 to 15, the Big Apple gave space both to new fashion voices and to the pillars of American myth such as Ralph Lauren, but what happened outside the city's major landmarks? Among the many pop-up stores installed for the occasion, the mobile show designed by Fuggler has truly conquered everyone.
Who (or what) are the Fugglers?
We are talking about the famous Funny Ugly Monsters plush toys by ZURU Toys, created in 2010 thanks to the creative mind of British artist and writer Louise McGettrick, also known as Mrs. McGettrick. What makes them so recognizable is precisely their grotesque and creepy design, between false teeth and slit eyes. On the other hand, the passion for 'ugly' puppets has never passed us by. Just think of Furby, our faithful owl inspired in part by Gremlins, invented in the 90s or the more recent Labubu that marked the rise of the blind-box phenomenon. Over the years, Fugglers have collaborated with the most important brands in pop culture, playing the role of iconic characters such as the heroes of DC Comics, the Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob and the Heart Bears.
The launch of the Fuggler Baddies collection at NFW SS27
“Perfection is boring. So, during New York Fashion Week, Pop Up Mob took Fuggler to the streets to celebrate everything that fashion shouldn't be: strange, imperfect and entirely yours”: said the leading reality in the field of temporary installations. On September 12, the perfect mix between colorful chaos and Ugly-Cute aesthetics arrived on a branded truck, directly in the heart of SoHo. The goal? Launch the Fuggler Baddies collection together with your community. Creators and small local companies have helped to improvise a fashion show, presenting seven exclusive looks designed by stylist and designer Megan O'Cain. Is each garment entirely inspired by the new Fuggler Baddies, or should we say real baddies? Gems, piercings and false eyelashes are in fact the key elements of the new plush toys that will soon appear in the bags of all it girls. Between gadgets and elaborate clothes, the event stopped an entire neighborhood, reminding us that sometimes a little mess would be enough to be in the right place.
