Dermaself, when beauty meets customization and Artificial Intelligence An Italian startup changes the rules of the game

After revolutionizing the skincare world for acne-prone skin, Dermaself takes another step forward in personalized beauty. On October 22, the Milan-based startup unveiled, in an exclusive preview, the new version of its AI Beauty Agent, now capable of analyzing dark spots and wrinkles with clinical precision. Founded in 2023 by mother and daughter Elena Setaro (Forbes Under 30) and Dermatologist and Researcher Dr. Adele Sparavigna, Dermaself is the first clinically validated BeautyTech service that, starting from a simple selfie, creates a personalized skincare routine based on the real ingredients (INCI) of products.

Artificial Intelligence in Beauty, According to Dermalab

Behind this technology are over 30 years of dermatological research from the Istituto di Ricerche Cliniche Derming, which led to the creation of a proprietary model able to “read” the skin like an expert. In just a few seconds, with no room for subjectivity. “Our AI is built on real clinical data, not trends. It’s a scientific technology that brings skincare back to what it truly is: care,” explains Elena Setaro, CEO and co-founder of Dermaself. The new version of the AI will be integrated both into the Dermaself.it website and into B2B modules for e-commerce and retailers, currently being tested with major beauty industry brands. Its goal: to offer every person a skincare experience based on science, data, and ingredients, not marketing promises.

The recent €800,000 investment round - led by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti together with Urban Venture and Derming - will allow Dermaself to further enhance its technology and expand its AI dermatology team. With a community of over 17,000 people, 8,000 active users, and a growing presence in pharmacies and retail channels, Dermaself stands out as one of the most innovative projects in the new wave of Italian beauty, where selfies and science meet to create real, filter-free skin.
