Blush stacking: how to make blush last longer For a long-lasting and heat-resistant blush

It’s hot. Foundation? We gave up on that weeks ago. Maybe some brave souls still dab on a bit of concealer, just to look vaguely alive in the mirror. But blush? Blush is the only product that stays in the beauty case, even in 40-degree heat, especially for those stuck in the city, where there's not even a hint of tan or healthy glow. The problem is, with this heat, makeup lasts about two seconds. Except for blush, or at least, not anymore, thanks to a little trick called blush stacking. Here’s what it is.

Blush stacking: how to make your blush last longer

@meccabeauty Can you really call yourself a blush lover if you don't layer and stack all of your favourites? If you need some inspiration for how to take your blush to the next level and ensure it lasts *all* day long, keep watching. Hint – it's all about blush stacking! #MECCAmoment original sound - MECCA

This time, it’s not another TikTok trend, but a technique used by top makeup artists backstage at fashion shows and red carpets. Blush stacking involves layering different blush textures to achieve a longer-lasting, more natural, and three-dimensional result. Start with a cream or liquid blush, blending it well with your fingers or a sponge: this creates the base and gives that healthy, luminous glow. Then apply a second blush, such as a tint or cream-to-powder formula, dabbing it only where you want to intensify the color a bit, without disturbing the base underneath. Finally, lock everything in with a powder blush, preferably one with a soft shimmer. Use a fluffy brush starting from the apples of the cheeks and blending outwards. This step sets the look, just like a setting powder, and helps it last all day.

How to get a flawless result? Here are some tips

Makeup artist Alex Byrne, interviewed by Byrdie, shared some tips to master the blush stacking technique. First: skin prep. To avoid the dreaded cakey face, it’s essential to exfoliate and hydrate your skin properly. Always let your skincare fully absorb before applying makeup, otherwise, blotches are almost guaranteed. Another trick? Avoid tone-on-tone shades. If you want that three-dimensional look, the secret is to choose two different hues. For liquid blushes, go with something soft like beige or dusty pink, and for the powder layer on top, opt for something bolder, like coral or bright pink.
