The DIY guide to cracked heels & co.

The pedicure home spa to prepare feet for sandals The DIY guide to cracked heels & co.

Warm weather, days outdoors, sandals and flip-flops as a must-have: summer is the perfect time to devote a beauty routine to your feet and, in case you've neglected them all fall-winter, make up for lost time by moisturizing, filing, and exfoliating. Incidentally, it really seems that in times of lockdown, sales of "feet-related" beauty products have increased: in the U.S., trend marketing agencies identified a growing search volume in April 2020 for masks and scrubs dedicated to cracked feet and heels, but also for nail polishes, nail files, and callus files. We tend to forget, in fact, that feet are among the most stressed and stressed parts of our bodies; in fact they support all our weight 365 days a year and throughout the cold months they remain closed and suffocated in shoes. That's why they often present the bill in this season, showing up dehydrated and dry, with thick and damaged skin. But how to remedy them?

DIY pedicure is an essential step in summer when feet are exposed between open shoes and scorching beaches. As a first step, it would be advisable to massage the feet every day, preferably in the evening, with an emollient and moisturizing cream to prevent and reduce cracking, dryness and calluses: start from the tips of the toes and, massage one toe at a time, work your way up slowly to the ankle. You then need a few products starting with solvent to remove traces of any nail polish and then a basin of warm water where you can soak your feet to soften the skin. In the water, you can add baking soda or coarse table salt for disinfectant action or lavender essential oil. You proceed with a scrub to remove dead skin cells and soften the skin. The feet are then re-soaked in water for a few moments, patted dry, and the toughest parts of the feet are smoothed with a pumice stone or rasp to remove any calluses and corns. After cleaning your feet, now devote yourself to moisturizing them with a DIY nourishing mask. Always choose rich ingredients with emollient power such as honey, yogurt or avocado, among the most commonly used beauty remedies.

All that remains now is to devote yourself to the nails, first with a stick of orange wood you push the cuticles, then use a file to give the desired shape.  You start with the base coat, then your favorite color and finally the top coat. Patience is needed for about 10 minutes et voila. Finally, apply a generous amount of cream all over the foot, from the tips of the toes, down to the neck, heels and ankles, texting vigorously to reactivate circulation.
