The skincare steps not to forget wherever our summer destination is

Summer beauty routine The skincare steps not to forget wherever our summer destination is

Okay, we can say it with certainty: summer is here. The sun is shining from the sky, the temperatures are blisteringly hot, our Spotify playlist is full of frivolous hits and air conditioners and fans are our best friends. As if by magic, with the 21st of June, every planet has aligned itself to herald the entry into the hottest season of the year, and we willingly adapt to the mood: We have left our trench coats and boots in the very back of the closet, we have upped our fluid intake as experts recommend, we are walking the dog in the cooler hours, we are eating ice cream by the pound, and even though we are at work, in our minds the countdown to the holidays has already begun. In short, the buzzwords for the coming months seem to be lightness, freshness and relaxation. These are also the buzzwords that should guide our beauty routine for summer.

The goal of summer skincare is to combat facial heat sensitivity, provide long-lasting freshness while protecting and moisturising. So green light for cleansing cleansers, light moisturisers, refreshing washes, solutions to combat heat and emergency remedies for shine, enlarged pores and sun spots and, of course, a good dose of SPF. Never forget to apply a good SPF (at least factor 30 or factor 50) daily to protect the skin from UV damage, which can dry out the skin and accelerate the signs of ageing. It's important to update our makeup bag with a variety of products that are seasonal and follow three simple basic steps:

  • cleanse: The mix of heat, humidity, sweat and pollution creates impurities and shiny skin that often clogs pores and makes our skin more prone to stress and acne. In the warmer months, it is therefore better to avoid all oily make-up removers with "buttery" textures to remove make-up, as well as astringent soaps, and replace them with a light, gentle and non-clogging cleanser, perhaps in gel form, rinsed off with water. It's best if the product you choose contains cucumber and aloe extracts to soothe the heat sensation.
  • Moisturise: In the warmer months, increased sweating, drying environmental factors such as sun exposure, humid weather and air conditioning can all contribute to moisture loss from the skin, so it's important to compensate for fluid loss by drinking and thoroughly moisturising the skin. But while we prefer fuller-bodied, richer textures in winter, from June to September it's better to reach for light, non-occlusive formulations that are non-greasy and provide the elements that help reduce water evaporation from the skin's surface. So after thoroughly cleansing, it's best to apply a light, fragrance-free, refreshing, oil-free moisturiser, perhaps a multi-purpose moisturiser with hyaluronic acid or antioxidants that can stimulate collagen production and protect the skin from environmental aggressors and pollutants. It is very important to add a sun protection factor to our moisturiser daily to protect the skin from UV damage. How much should you apply? The morning dose should be about half a teaspoon per face and neck, reapplied every two hours or after each shower or dip in the pool.
  • Exfoliation: Some may not know it, but exfoliation is essential in the summer. Experts advise using a light scrub daily or alternatively opting for a deeper exfoliation a few times a week - a necessary step to remove dead skin cells and impurities to prevent blemishes and maintain an even skin tone.

These are the general steps, but depending on where we spend the summer, there are small variations and tricks we can apply.

Summer beauty routine in the city

Heat, sultriness, but also smog and air conditioning affect the health of our skin, especially when we are forced to stay in the city. What can you do to keep it looking its best? Add some antioxidants to your beauty routine, such as vitamin C, which prevents skin ageing and hyperpigmentation, and also supports the body and face's natural collagen production. Just remember to always apply SPF before you go out in the direct sun after a vitamin C treatment, as it is photosensitive. Another trick to detox from smog and stress is to take aloe juice, a detox drink that is also high in vitamins and minerals and helps in the elimination of toxins. Last tip: Always have a refreshing spray bottle in your handbag when the heat becomes too oppressive.

Summer beauty routine on the plane

Moisten. This is the watchword for the best way to manage air travel. The pressurised air in the plane cabin dries out the skin, so we need to replenish our water reserves by drinking and applying a slightly richer cream than we would use on the beach or in town.If the flight is long, we can take a few extra steps while sitting in our seat, such as.For example, gently cleansing the skin with wipes containing soothing ingredients such as chamomile and aloe vera, applying a moisturising mask, e.g. with shea butter or vitamin E, and applying a rich, nourishing cream to the face. As always, it's a great idea to keep soothing spa water or classic rose water on hand to calm the skin and refresh it.

Summer beauty routine at the beach

Remember that on the beach, elements such as tanning, salt water and wind laden with grains of sand can dry out the skin and, in the worst cases, cause rashes. To avoid these unpleasant effects, it is best to start in the morning with a gentle cleansing, then apply a vitamin C treatment followed by a light moisturiser. Then it is time to use an active sunscreen, for both UVA and UVB rays and never with a minimum protection factor of less than 30.We must not forget that protection must also be reapplied at least every 2 hours at the beach and every time we get out of the water. It needs to be cleaned again to remove sunscreen residue, salt and sand. Then it's on to moisturising with creams, serums or masks containing hyaluronic acid, not forgetting the contours and lips. Finally, it can help to refresh the skin with special steams and thermal waters that have soothing and emollient properties. The same treatment applies not only to the face but also to the rest of the body.

Summer beauty routine in the mountains

When you are at higher altitudes, the temperature is low, the atmosphere contains less oxygen and the environment is dry. Therefore, it is best to keep the moisture balance in check even with your daily skin care routine, starting with the use of a gentle cleanser that protects the skin from becoming too dry and helps to retain moisture. Basic essentials include a lip balm with SPF 30, which is ideal for preventing dryness and cracking, but most importantly a thick moisturiser with ingredients like oils, vitamin E, ceramides, shea butter, urea or squalene. The plus? A toner that adds an extra layer of moisture to the skin. Finally, we must never forget that the sun is relentless at higher altitudes. Therefore, sunscreen must accompany us throughout our mountain holiday!
