How to protect beach bleached hair Small steps to have a healthy and shiny hair all summer long

Blonde, balayage, air touch or sunstroke. Any bleaching technique has one thing in common: it makes hair more vulnerable. If during the rest of the year a good haircare routine is enough to keep them soft and shiny, in summer things get complicated. However, this does not mean having to choose between a day at the beach and a healthy head of hair: with a few precautions before, during and after the beach, it is possible to limit damage and arrive in September without ending up with dry, dull and straw hair.

How to protect beach bleached hair

Before the sea

Protecting bleached hair starts before you even get to the beach. Just as we would never go out without sunscreen on our face, even the lengths need a barrier against UV rays, wind and salt. Before entering the water, it is useful to apply a leave-in product with a UV filter or a light oil to create a protective film and reduce moisture loss. Another small gesture that can make a difference is to wet your hair with fresh water before bathing so that the fiber is already hydrated and absorbs less salt or chlorinated water.

During the sea

We know how irresistible that natural beach waves effect of wavy hair left to dry in the wind after a bath in the sea is, but on bleached hair it can turn into a harmful habit. In fact, the salt dehydrates the fiber already sensitized by the discoloration even more, making the lengths even rougher, opaque and difficult to detangle. To avoid this, after bathing or in any case as soon as possible, it is best to rinse your hair again with fresh water to eliminate salt or chlorine residues. Even better if, once the salt has been eliminated, you use a wide-toothed comb to gently untie the knots without breaking the fiber, perhaps applying a little leave-in conditioner or oil to help yourself. Even the way you hold your hair throughout the day can make a difference. It is best to avoid elastic bands that are too tight, especially when the hair is wet, because hair already weakened by bleaching tends to break more easily. Go ahead instead for soft and collected braids made with delicate accessories, such as silk elastics or materials that do not pull the hair.

After the sea

After exposure to the sun and bathing in salt and chlorinated water, bleached hair, but in general everyone, needs to be rebalanced. For this reason, it is necessary to choose products capable of restoring the hydration and nourishment that the lengths lose during the day: from shampoo to conditioner, to the mask, which should become a regular appointment at least once or twice a week, perhaps focusing on ingredients such as ceramides and proteins, which help to strengthen the hair fiber, improve its appearance and make it softer. If you haven't used it yet, this is also the right time to insert a pre-shampoo into your routine. Applied before shampooing, it creates a kind of preparatory treatment that helps protect the fiber during washing, when more fragile hair may lose additional moisture.
