Makeup is not only a way to look your best, but also a powerful tool of expression. Whether it's a fresh and natural look for the day or a bolder look for the evening, makeup allows us to play with our image and show who we really are. But there are those who go beyond simple makeup and turn it into a true art form: Marcelo Gutierrez is one of these artists. With his talent and unique vision, he has conquered the beauty world and taken makeup to a whole new level.

Who is Marcelo Gutierrez

Marcelo Gutierrez is a talented and visionary makeup artist who has made a mark on the U.S. beauty scene. Born in Colombia in 1994 and raised in Florida, he has been immersed in art since childhood thanks to his parents, both artists. Driven by an insatiable desire to express himself, he began his journey in fine arts in California, then moved to New York where he found his true passion for makeup by exploring the underground scenes, combining his natural talent with these unique visions. With an innovative style and unafraid to challenge conventions, he was discovered by Pat McGrath. From that moment on, Marcelo collaborated with internationally renowned photographers and stylists such as Renell Medrano and Petra Collins, and his work was featured in a lot of international magazines. He has worked with legendary brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and MAC, and with famous artists such as Lily Rose-Depp, Rosalía, and Madonna.

"Nothing Precious" is his first book

"Nothing Precious" is the first photobook published by Marcelo. He collaborated with photographers, now friends, such as Renell Medrano and Aidan Zamiri, and did makeup for models like Gabbriette, Paloma Elsesser, and Lourdes Leon. The book opens with an introduction written by Lily-Rose Depp, who perfectly describes Marcelo's approach to makeup: "Marcelo's chair is one of those that makes you feel more yourself when you leave than when you sat down, because something in your heart has been delicately touched and brought to light by the magic of his hands". The first thing Marcelo asks when doing makeup is "How do you want to feel today?", because his goal is to dive into the emotions and create something extraordinary from them. What you will find inside this book are intimate images capturing the strength and charm of his journey in the world of fashion and art.

Icon of Makeup, but also an Activist

Marcelo is not only a talented makeup artist, but also an activist committed to the representation of the Latinx, BIPOC, and LGBTQI+ communities. In particular, he emphasizes that the lack of visibility of these communities on sets is a real and urgent issue. In a time when inclusivity is more important than ever, being able to tell their stories and occupy jobs, both in front and behind the camera, can truly change the way some marginalized communities are perceived.
