Minimal black dress is the unexpected trend for summer 2023

Even in summer. And that's the real news: black will be the colour to wear in the coming months, even when temperatures rise and no longer just during the cold season. The winners on the SS23 catwalks are the creations with dry, essential, almost austere lines, all in black. Prada proposes midi lengths with bandeau tops or with thin straps and a small train; Gabriela Hearst loves deep necklines with flared hem; while Victoria Beckham combined lace tights. Max Mara brings straight silhouettes that reinvent the ruffled neckline to the catwalk; Nensi Dojaka continues to reset her boudoir style; Coperni and Ferragamo add ruffles, asymmetries or frocks; Valentino plays with different lengths and necklines. At Botter, the black dress is worn with trainers and a jumper laced over the shoulders; at Khaite it has boho vibes; at Courreges and Versace it is designed for modern femmes fatales, while at The Row it is the epitome of 90s minimalism.

It's a short journey from fashion weeks to the red carpets, and thanks in part to a certain newfound love of 90s style, more and more celebrities are opting for sleek, no-frills, strictly black creations.
