It had been in the air for some time. First with tentative attempts on the catwalks, then the phenomenon caught on and the SS23 shows unanimously decided on the new rule: do away with trousers, put underwear first, and let us be clear that underwear means briefs. The look that works best involves sky-high heels, opaque stockings, briefs and jumpers, as Bottega Veneta and then Kendall Jenner teach, but also sheer stockings, sumptuous bras and blazers, as Victoria Beckham and Anne Hathaway are so fond of. If Bella Hadid took it to the extreme by wearing white men's briefs, Uggs and a motocross jacket to eat a sandwich on the streets of New York, Kylie Jenner added black tights and a very long grey coat to her underwear ensemble by Loewe, while Rita Ora opted to cover her body in a lingerie dress by Nensi Dojaka, from which a cherry red slip protruded.

With the trend set to continue, so much so that Maximilian Davis sent a red and black look down the runway for Ferragamo's FW with legs and lingerie in the foreground, one can cleverly experiment and try to create wearable and liberating looks. After all, there is something extremely daring about doing without an essential garment like trousers, which can also be read as emancipation. If the trend does not quite convince you yet, here are six looks you can experiment with boldly and with a good dose of ease.
