Olfattorio Bar à Parfums, for over 40 years a leading Italian name in international artistic perfumery and luxury skincare, presents three new fragrances by Amouage, enriching the Essences collection with a narrative centered on the significance of time.

Exploring the Shape of Time with the New Amouage Fragrances

Time is at the heart of the Amouage Essences Collection. When creating it, Renaud Salmon, Creative Director of the prestigious Omani haute perfumery house, decided that every aspect of the line, from the stories behind the fragrances to their formulation and visual representation, would reflect the fundamental importance of time. "For the second trilogy of Essences," says Salmon, "I wanted to explore time even more deeply, reflecting on how it is part of the very structure of everything around us." These reflections led Salmon to the fields of physics and geometry. In these disciplines, time is far more than a simple measure connecting one minute to the next. It is, in fact, a force directly linked to the physicality of objects that make up our existence: a boundary between the world we know and others whose reality we can only sense. "If we accept that time is an authentic feature of the structure of everything," explains Salmon, "it becomes relatively easy to understand how it can be represented geometrically, and this is precisely what I aimed to express with the new Essences. I chose to focus on three geometric concepts: a straight line, a point, and a circle."

Line 618, Toward Infinity

The line is perhaps the geometric shape most imbued with hope. It moves from one point to another, evoking journey and progress. It is a channel toward eternity, unaffected by curves or deviations. The extraordinary technical skills of Nathalie Lorson were enlisted to give an olfactory representation of a unique, lucid form progressing toward infinity. The result is Line 618, named in reference to the Golden Ratio, a fundamental concept in geometry contributing to harmonious proportions in art and design. Following the principle of infinite balance, Lorson opens the fragrance with a surprising combination of black pepper and pineapple. The fruity facet of the latter creates an intriguing counterpoint to the more explosive character of the former: two distinct elements walking a delicate tightrope. The next stage is marked by heliotrope and pine. With their almond, floral, and green-citrus notes, they extend and expand the initial contrasts. In the final phase, as the impeccable balance continues to fade into the horizon, sandalwood, patchouli, and leather bring the line closer to a perpetually unreachable olfactory horizon. Surprising, grand, and perfectly harmonious, Line 618 is a study in ideal proportions on the inevitability of progress.

Remain, Born from a Single Moment

The point is the smallest of geometric representations, yet also the most powerful. It is a beginning, an origin, the base element of all other forms: every figure and curve imaginable is composed of a series of perfectly aligned points. To convey the idea of a single instant existing within all that follows, Salmon enlisted Pierre Negrin. The result is Remain, a study in singularity. The fragrance opens with a flash of intensity. The peppery character of allspice berries and the brightness of mandarin assert themselves decisively. The introduction of incense then leads the composition into more complex territories, linking the spark of a single moment to past structures. Jasmine, ylang-ylang, lily, and vanilla expand the horizon of the instant, making its impact more enveloping. Finally, ambergris, guaiac wood, patchouli, and castoreum, with their deep, partially animalic personalities, anchor the composition to the primordial: the place from which time itself originates. Dazzling, complex, and sensual, Remain is an unforgettable declaration of the point in time from which all others are measured.

Sequence, the Cycle of Infinity

The circle is a form of deep symbolic resonance. Beyond appearing in countless natural forms, it has been used for millennia in the arts as an expression of cycles. Julien Rasquinet was tasked with giving the circle an olfactory form. His talent resulted in Sequence, a statement on the power of every sunset to transform into a sunrise. Like every beginning, Sequence takes flight with a bright spark: lychee and raspberry offer an optimistic energy with crimson tones, while saffron introduces a leathery note destined to become central as the fragrance unfolds. The circle then rotates to reveal rose and tonka bean, two luxurious raw materials adding romance and solemnity. Osmanthus, with its pronounced leathery facet, creates a direct link to the initial saffron. Approaching the inevitable conclusion, oud and amber woods push Sequence toward even greater depth, transforming initial lightheartedness into a display of authoritative wisdom. Finally, an elegant leather echoes the osmanthus and saffron, creating a leitmotif throughout the fragrance: a reflection of the cycle from beginning to end and back. Sparkling, luxurious, and vital, Sequence moves to the eternal rhythm of endings that become new beginnings.

Amouage Essences, Mapping the Contours of Time

The Amouage Essences represent a true innovation in the world of perfumery. All concentrates are infused for six months with chips of exceptionally aged Australian sandalwood. In parallel, the alcohol used for dilution is infused for the same period in handcrafted oak barrels made in France by Allary artisans. Just as understanding time reveals previously invisible aspects of the physical world, the time given to this complex double infusion process brings out facets of the three fragrances that would otherwise remain hidden: an indescribable patina of refinement enveloping each scent. An intangible effect, yet undeniably real, just like time itself.

Line 618, Remain, and Sequence are housed in the bespoke Essences bottle. Viewed from the front, its vertical grooves evoke the dunes of the Omani desert; seen from above, the bottle mirrors the iconic twelve-point Amouage emblem. Beneath each bottle sits the Essences medal, a handcrafted, shiny object displaying key fragrance information and a stylized graphic representation of the scent. On every package, the image of an hourglass recalls the importance of time. The striking visual compositions by artist Louise Mertens, featured on the outer wrapping, offer a poetic evocation of the concepts contained in the perfumes. The Essences visual campaign, photographed by Louise Mertens, brings the abstract language of time to life through austere brutalist-inspired compositions. Each image features bronze sculptural monoliths reflecting the geometric identity of the fragrances, serving as physical expressions of the structure of time.
