How to get Bella Hadid's honey blonde shade
Colorist Jacob Schwartz revealed the secrets behind the shade dubbed “Supermodel Blonde”
May 19th, 2025
Did you know Bella Hadid is a natural blonde? In 2016, she told Allure that she dyes her hair brown to avoid comparisons with her sister Gigi Hadid: "I have a darker personality. And the fact that my sister is blonde and I’m a brunette is a nice separation."Although she usually favors shades between chocolate and coffee, the model occasionally visits her colorist for a look refresh. Remember her textured dirty blonde from 2019 or the Tiger Blonde - "a peachy color with a twist" - from 2022? This time, Bella has said goodbye to her signature brunette locks and opted for a warm honey blonde tone.
Bella Hadid’s new hair look debuts in Cannes
The 28-year-old arrived at the Hotel Martinez during the 78th Cannes Film Festival wearing an all-white outfit: white bootcut jeans and a denim bustier top. She styled her new look in a half-updo with a side fringe reminiscent of Pamela Anderson. Her new hair color stood out even more on the red carpet of Partir Un Jour, as her cascading lengths elegantly flowed down her back, highlighting the low-cut neckline of her Saint Laurent gown and adding extra glow to her dazzling emerald and diamond jewelry by Chopard.
How the Supermodel Blonde was born
The mastermind behind this glamorous update to Hadid’s hairstyle is Jacob Schwartz, colorist and ambassador for both Olaplex and Schwarzkopf Professional. "Bella goes to Cannes every year, so it was the perfect moment to do something big," said Schwartz. "Going from brunette to blonde is a huge task. Bella is a natural blonde, so finding childhood photos was a great reference point. Using those images and her skin tone, we created this epic and luxurious honey shade." Schwartz revealed the transformation took two days and required a significant amount of Olaplex—specifically Olaplex Nº.1 Bond Multiplier in the bleaching formula and Olaplex Nº.2 Bond Perfector between every step. The results exceeded expectations and kept Bella’s hair healthy: "Proper planning, the right products, and patience are the three things I rely on most to achieve consistent results. I always use Olaplex Nº.0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment and Nº.2 Bond Perfector when lifting hair to blonde to ensure a strong and healthy foundation. After coloring, her hair didn’t break. It was incredibly healthy, which made it easy to style for the red carpet."
How to get Bella Hadid’s blonde
Bella’s new warm tone works well not just for brunettes looking to lighten their hair without going overboard, but also for blondes who want to add depth and a luxurious touch. So, how do you achieve her sun-kissed honey blonde? Jacob Schwartz began by bleaching Bella’s hair with Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Vario Blond Super Plus at 20 volumes - a product formulated to prevent yellowing and maintain hair strength and elasticity. He then added lowlights - also known as reverse highlights - by darkening specific strands to enhance the base color. After the initial lightening, he applied Schwarzkopf Igora Royal Vibrance Tone at 6 volumes and left it on for 20 minutes. Then he washed the hair with Olaplex products and blow-dried it before performing another round of lightening. Next came the root and hairline definition using another Igora Vibrance Tone. To finish, he hand-painted select strands using Igora Vario Blond Super Plus.
Here’s a step-by-step recap of Schwartz’s process for creating Bella’s blonde:
- Bleach with Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Vario Blond Super Plus (white powder) at 20 volumes across the entire head.
- Add lowlights using Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Royal Vibrance Tone. Top: 7-55 + 7-0 with 6 volume. Ends: 8-0 + 9-55 with 6 volume.
- Apply Olaplex Nº.1 Bond Multiplier to strengthen the hair.
- Blow dry.
- Repeat the lowlight process with Igora Royal Vibrance for more depth.
- Highlight a few strands using Igora Vario Blond Super Plus with 20 volume.
- Blend the roots: Hairline: 8-0 + 9-55 with 6 volume for 5 minutes. Roots: 7-0 (30%) + 6-0 (15%) + 7-55 (15%) with 6 volume for 20 minutes. Zone 2 (middle section): 9-55 + 9-0 with 6 volume for 5 minutes
- No color applied all over.
- Finish with Olaplex Nº.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner.
