We like cooking again Rediscovering the joys of life, economic recession or conservatism?
Forget delivery: in 2025, the kitchen is once again the heart of the home. According to data from Klarna, the global digital bank and leader in flexible payments, Italians are increasingly devoted to small domestic rituals. Between January and September 2025, sales of kitchen tools and accessories skyrocketed compared to the same period in 2024, proving a renewed interest in slow, authentic living. It’s the so-called nostalgic kitchen: a return to the origins that blends retro aesthetics with the joy of simple gestures, turning meal preparation into a moment of creativity and wellbeing.
Homemade desserts and the return of comfort baking
The home baking fever is spreading fast, from apple pie lovers to banana bread fans. According to Klarna, sales of cake tins (+348%), muffin tins (+318%), bread moulds (+123%), and cake moulds (+112%) have exploded in 2025, while demand for bakery accessories such as cake stands (+70%) and baking parchment (+335%) is also on the rise. Italians are kneading again, turning their kitchens into small creative labs.
Slow Living, kitchen edition
Goodbye rush, hello slow gestures. The return to craftsmanship is reflected in the surge in sales of rolling pins (+257%), wooden spoons (+67%), wooden spoon sets (+103%), wooden cutting boards (+75%), and kitchen aprons (+181%). The imagery recalls old-fashioned kitchens: flour on the counter, soft doughs, and utensils that tell stories. It’s a trend that’s winning over younger generations too, increasingly drawn to an authentic, slow-paced lifestyle.
