Disney expands its offer dedicated to sports with Becoming Her, the new documentary produced by the Juventus Creator Lab that will debut in September in the ESPN section of the platform. Giving voice to the Italian version will be Francesca Michielin, a great black and white fan and interpreter of a story that intertwines the stories of three young players united by the same passion: soccer. Before arriving on Disney, the documentary will premiere on July 20 at the Giffoni Film Festival, as part of the Special Event section.

What Becoming Her is about

The documentary follows the path of Sofia Cholovskaya, Samantha Lee and Anna Copelli, three girls who live in different countries but share the same dream. Sofia trains at the Juventus Academy in Al Khobar, in Saudi Arabia, Samantha attends the Juventus Academy in Los Angeles, in the United States, while Anna grew up in the Juventus youth sector at the Allianz Training Center in Vinovo.

Between training, school, friendships and moments of daily life, Becoming Her portrays soccer as much more than a sport: a space where you can learn to believe in yourself, build your identity and imagine your future. Through the experiences of the three protagonists, the documentary addresses issues such as ambition, personal growth and the desire to assert themselves.

A story of growth, on and off the field

The narrative kicks off in Vinovo, where Anna celebrates her 18th birthday with her Juventus Under 19 teammates, a symbolic moment that marks the transition to adulthood. From here, the story is intertwined with that of Sofia, divided between school, friends and the dream of becoming a professional soccer player, and of Samantha, who alternates study, creativity and training in Los Angeles, finding in soccer a tool to strengthen her confidence in herself. Anna's career, however, comes to an abrupt halt when a knee injury interrupts her season. Diagnosis, surgery and lengthy rehabilitation become the heart of a journey that is not only sporting, but also personal. Alongside her, the team and her teammates demonstrate how football is also made up of support, sharing and a sense of community. At the same time, Sofia and Samantha continue their growth path. Through intimate interviews and everyday moments, the documentary highlights the emotions, fears, motivations and aspirations of the three protagonists, showing how stories born in different contexts can be reflected in each other.
