Desigual Studio line showcased in Barcelona The interview with the head of concept Vitor Manuel Neves

A few days ago in Barcelona, Desigual unveiled Desigual Studio, the brand’s new premium line, with a runway show that transformed the maison’s creative DNA into a new dimension. The event, hosted at the striking Nau de Turbines de les Tres Xemeneies, brought together over 500 guests from fashion, music, cinema, and culture, establishing this line as the brand’s ultimate creative expression: limited edition, refined materials, meticulous tailoring, and a design that reinterprets Desigual’s archive, bringing it back to its most authentic roots. Leading this new journey is Vitor Manuel Neves, Head of Concept at Desigual. We interviewed him just before the show.
Interview with Vitor Manuel Neves, Head of Concept at Desigual
What inspires your work?
We started by thinking about Barcelona, because it’s where we are right now. We asked ourselves: why this collection? Why this Studio line? And in the end, the answer is simple: we are in Barcelona, a fantastic city. You have the sea, the mountains. Barcelona is the main inspiration, the main reason, our city. The brand was founded in Ibiza but later moved here. Even the colors are inspired by the city: the sun, yellow, blue, and brown, which come from the sea and mountains. And then this slightly pinkish yellow, reminiscent of sunsets.
Can you tell us a bit about your creative process?
It’s unique. Complex, but in a positive way. It all begins in an incredible room in our office. It’s an archive. We were looking for a specific feeling, that moment when something seems to “click” as you look at a garment. This is our first source of inspiration: understanding which pieces fit the present. We want to preserve our heritage, make it our starting point, but also create a line that belongs to today. Then, of course, we apply a creative filter. We want to build something that moves toward the future. Special importance is also given to materials. They are premium, and this is very important to us, because it makes the difference between the main collection and the Studio line. We’re talking about leather, cashmere, silk, and high-quality cotton.
What does working for Desigual mean to you? What do you see in your future?
It’s inspiring. When people think of Desigual, they think of vibrant colors, of teachers’ clothes, and we’re proud of that. I’m extremely proud of it. I’ve been working here for three and a half years. But now I’m also thinking about the future of Desigual, what it could be in a few years, what we want and can achieve with the creative direction. We are very creative, we can do whatever we want. In the future, I see more shows, more premium collections. I’m convinced this is the right time to build something new.
