5 experiences to do in St.Moritz The alpine destination is extremely cool and cozy with its champagne climate

There is little to say, St. Moritz is and will always remain the ultimate social destination. Its legendary dry, crisp climate is known to all as the "champagne climate," and the sun shines for a whopping 322 days a year. Winter tourism was born here back in 1884, thanks in part to the resourcefulness of hotel entrepreneurs like Johannes Badrutt. Today, it is the undisputed stage for winter sports and social events: from wonderful ski slopes and cross-country skiing to famous funparks for snowboarding, bobsledding and curling enthusiasts or from gourmet evenings in five-star hotels to exclusive art exhibitions. However, St. Moritz is not only the city of choice for luxury and cosmopolitan tourism, it is also the ideal destination for all those who do not want to miss out on out-of-the-ordinary and highly original experiences.

1.       Visit the largest whiskey bar in the world

Whiskey lovers cannot miss this gem. In the renowned hotel and restaurant Waldhaus am See in St. Moritz, you will find the Devil's Place, a bar often cited in Guinness World Records, where you can choose from more than 2,500 varieties of whiskey in a super elegant and extremely cozy setting. From exotic whiskies from Uruguay, Japan and New Zealand to classic Scottish malts to an endless selection of blended, Irish or bourbon spirits. Next door is the Cigarren-Lounge, a relaxing area where you can pair your barley distillate with one of the best cigars on the market. Try it to believe!

2. Taste the typical Nusstorte

Impossible to say no to this symbol of Switzerland. Engadine nut cake is a short pastry casket with a delicious filling of caramelized sugar, cream, coarsely chopped nuts, and sometimes honey inside. Apparently, the filling was created by a baker named Fausto Pult back in 1926. This pride of Swiss pastry must be strictly sampled at Hanselmann's or Bäckerei Bad. Ideal with a cup of tea or coffee for a snack of pure goodness or to end a lunch with friends on a high note. Diet can always wait, anyway.

  3. Playing Golf on the frozen lake

For golf enthusiasts, we recommend the St. Moritz Snow Golf Days program. From February 8 to 10, 2023, you can enjoy playing golf on the frozen lake in St. Moritz. Snow golf is a sport based on golf but played on snow or ice. The greens are called white and are permanent snow or ice surfaces. An experience definitely out of the ordinary and not to be missed.

4.       Treat yourself to five o'clock tea at Suvretta House

Think the tradition of drinking tea at 5 p.m. is only English? You're wrong. Even in St. Moritz this tradition is more alive than ever. One of the most iconic places to sip this hot beverage is definitely the Suvretta House hotel. From how magnificent it is, this location can easily be mistaken for a fairy-tale castle. Tea here is served in an area from where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the lake.

 5. Hop on the Bernina Express from St. Moritz to Tirano

Want to relax in total comfort by applying the motto of slow living to the letter? Then you absolutely must hop on the Bernina Express heading to Tirano, one of the most picturesque towns in Valtellina. On board this famous fire-red train, built in the early 20th century and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you can experience all the magic of the Swiss Alps. Two and a half hours of breathtaking views in a perfect mix of nature, history, art and culture.
