JW Anderson SS21 collection

A "show in a box" celebrating the creativity of each of us and the designer's aesthetic codes

JW Anderson SS21 collection A show in a box celebrating the creativity of each of us and the designer's aesthetic codes

The latest Fashion Weeks, with the restrictions due to the pandemic that limit travel and events with the public, have forced brands to find interesting and powerful alternative solutions to introduce their new creations. For the presentation of the SS21 collection, JW Anderson has opted for a format already experienced with the SS21 menswear and the resort21: "show in a box". The British designer has created a special box that contains inside a book bound with screws and made of different types of paper, binders with photos, colored sheets, and the lookbook with new outfits. With a brass coin you can unscrew the closure, disassemble and deconstruct the volume, and then recreate your show, your personal installation.

It is a celebration of fashion at its most frivolous, embellished, poetic; escapist and liberating, even. The outburst of lightness – both metaphorical and real – is framed within the classic sense of poise and elegance which has become a JW Anderson signature.

The talented designer plays with proportions, color and texture creating an expressive and eclectic wardrobe. Among experiments and DIY artistic projects, what catches the eye is a series of garments celebrating Anderson's aesthetic codes, which oscillate between asymmetrical and unbalanced outfits and the precision of uniforms, double-breasted military coats made modern by patch pockets. Large floral jacquards bloom on balloon skirts and peplum jackets, large cargo pockets appear on cropped full trousers, crystal and feather embroideries shine on jersey tops, while on soft draped dresses, asymmetries, knots and pleated motifs give further dynamism to volumes. The must-haves in the collection?  The "belt skirt" to be worn over the dresses or the monochromatic outfits and the huge toy-earrings.

Fun facts: a series of limited edition photographs by Lewis Ronald inspired the prints in the collection.
