Revenge of Blondes in Romances How the authors decided to give the Golden Boys a second chance

From the pages of a flowing novel, to the frames of an auteur film to the screenplay of a TV series: brunette fever seemed incurable. Let's face it: for years, the dead were the endgames of our favorite protagonists. Just think of Mr. Big in Sex and the City, Damon Salvatore in TheVampire Diaries and Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl. As teenagers we learned about the pack of werewolves led by Scott McCall and today we agreed to dance with the Bridgerton brothers, after rooting for Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean. In fairytales, the prince is blond with blue eyes, yet our trusted authors have always told us that true love is a black cat boy with brown curls. But now something is changing: blond people are (finally) coming back. The perfect example? His name is James Beaufort. The arrogant and tormented heir to a fashion empire, played by Damian Hardung who revolutionized the new era of teen drama with his performance in Maxton Hall. Even the queen of romance Felicia Kingsley has intercepted the trend, opting for a blond protagonist for her latest book 'First Lady by chance'. Elle Woods, in the early 2000s, taught us that blondes are much more than just golden hair, will it be the same for blondes? One thing is certain: 2026 put all the cards on them. But who exactly are we talking about?

Blonde protagonists who drive the audience crazy: who are they?

Dean Di Laurentis in Off Campus

Stephen Kalyn is the blonde of the moment. The Canadian actor has stolen the hearts of millions of fans thanks to his role as Dean Di Laurentis in the famous Prime Video series Off Campus. Although his character was not the protagonist, the playboy with a highly developed emotional intelligence has almost overshadowed Garrett Graham. Nothing to fear, because in the second season we will see him in the spotlight together with Mika Abdalla in the role of Allie Hayes. In fact, the production chose to skip the chronological order of the novels to immediately focus on the troubled and passionate relationship between the two, told in the third book of the Kennedy saga, “The Betrayal” (The Score).

Love triangles have never looked so blonde

Mori vs. Biondi: how many times did the protagonist have to choose between the opposite ends of a triangle? If before it was obvious that the dark one prevailed - see Conrad Fisher who overshadowed the charm of his younger brother - now the girls have changed their minds. In the Netflix series A Beautiful Mistake, the protagonist Jackie seems to be in love with Alex, but then she chooses Cole, the most rebellious of the Walters, played by the very blond Noah LaLonde. However, this is not the only Netflix series that is making us 'make peace' with blondes. Brayden Elliot, the 'bad boy' of ice skating (played by Cale Ambrozic), totally disrupted Adriana Russo's life in Finding Her Edge. We still don't know if in the second season we'll see her alongside her first love Freddie or the platinum-haired boy, but one thing is certain: with Brayden the chemistry was real.

The Crow Girl Triangle, on Netflix

On September 10, the platform with the red logo released a new TV series that re-proposes the same dynamic once again: Crow Girl. At the center we have Teagan Tao, the helmsman that every team would like, and on the sides are Josh Regis and Cam Dillinger. The first is the captain of the rowing team, as well as the scion of a wealthy family, the golden boy par excellence. The second, on the other hand, is the team's outsider, characterized by a decidedly kinder spirit. Teagan seems to have feelings for both of us, but with Josh we saw the drone. “Are you blond or are you dead?” This question has never been answered unambiguously in the romance-verse; in fact, we've never been able to choose between Jess Mariano and Logan Huntzberger in Gilmore Girls, and we're happy like that.
