Elon Musk and Grimes are parents again

Elon Musk and Grimes have had a second child, born in secret last December through a surrogate mother. The news came out of the blue, surprising the couple's fans and the journalist who first broke the story. Devin Gordon was interviewing Grimes in her Austin home for Vanity Fair USA when she heard a baby crying while they were talking. He asked the singer if there was a new baby in her life. Initially, the artist replied that she was "at liberty to speak on these things", but then confirmed that she and Musk (she calls him "E" or "bro") welcomed a baby girl named Exa Dark Sideræl. After naming their firstborn who is now almost two years old X Æ A X-II, they continued the tradition of original names full of hidden meanings.

"Exa" is a computer term, while "Dark" refers to the unknown "People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe". Sidæreal, pronounced "sigh-deer-ee-el", is a "more elven" spelling of sidereal "the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time", but it is also an homage to Galadriel, Grimes' favourite character in The Lord of the Rings.

No one expected Grimes and Musk to expand their family, as rumours suggested the two had separated months ago. Asked about this topic, the singer said:

"There's no real word for it. I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we're very fluid. We live in separate houses. We're best friends. We see each other all the time… We just have our own thing going on, and I don't expect other people to understand it. We've always wanted at least three or four".

After the Vanity Fair interview, Grimes specified in a tweet that she wants to keep her daughter's likeness and details private:

"I did this to speak abt my work, not ‘reveal all’ haha. Def held back a lot, contrary 2 headline. & didn’t mean for them 2 find out about my daughter so please respect her privacy as I’d love her to be able to live as private of a life as possible."

Joking on Twitter, she added that the revelation about the child made her break up with Musk again, who remains "my best friend and the love of my life".
