Why do we care so much about the Ferragnez' marriage?

Why do we care so much about the Ferragnez' marriage? When it comes to Chiara Ferragni and Fedez, public opinion is at its worst

Everyone has been talking about Fedez and Chiara Ferragni, their breakup, and the treatment they received from the media. Now, the rapper himself is adding fuel to the fire with his highly anticipated appearance on Belve, alongside Francesca Fagnani. In recent months, speculation about the relationship between the Ferragnez has spiraled out of control in the public eye, from newspapers to blogs and social networks. It all started at last year's Sanremo, in 2023, where the influencer and entrepreneur co-hosted and the rapper, in the audience, stole the spotlight by sharing a kiss with Rosa Chemical, who was competing. From that moment on - which acted like a match on a powder keg - no one has been at peace anymore.

Ferragnez: The Balocco Scandal and Media Treatment

The final straw was supposedly the scandal surrounding the Balocco charity event, the apology video that followed, the social media silence to limit the damage, but perhaps also to deal with painful private matters. Magazines, newspapers, and the like, which had already shown they were unwilling to hold back, have definitively broken the floodgates. On Twitter, every day, the Instagram stories of the parties involved were analyzed, saved, screenshotted, commented on, zoomed in. It seems that the state of the Ferragnez marriage has become a matter of national interest, damn the fact that children, people, are involved. In recent weeks, there have been several confirmations of the separation, complete with salacious details, with no qualms about discussing his illness, financial interests, and hinting at possible infidelities. Not even the parties involved were spared: Chiara Ferragni was a guest on Fabio Fazio's show Che Tempo Che Fa and Fedez, from a distance, reciprocated with Belve.

Fedez on Belve: The Statements

What did the 34-year-old tell Fagnani? In short, he admitted that the Balocco scandal influenced the breakup, talked about the high media attention surrounding their marriage, and spoke fairly calmly about his wife, also discussing how they helped each other professionally, teaching each other a lot. "Around our figures, there is thought to be a certain conspiracy. As if it were all a calculation. They're speculations, how can I justify myself?" he declared. "Chiara and I have been through so many difficult times, like my illness. They've been 3 tough years. We didn't make it," he concluded. Nothing unheard of before and nothing new. His own story, including drug problems and mental health issues, wasn't missing either. However, it all pales in comparison to the story (or crumbs of a story) of Italy's most powerful ex-couple, even on social media, where highlights of the interview are obsessively shared and reposted, and will be for a few more days.

The Ferragnez: A Polarizing Couple

There is no doubt that the Ferragnez are a power couple, polarizing and interesting for better or for worse. For a while, everything they touched turned to gold, and in the meantime, the resentment grew. In short, they were one of those topics that guaranteed engagement and clicks, that got people talking, that sparked debates, that even involved Giorgia Meloni herself. Omnipresent for years, they showed us everything about themselves, not only through social networks but also with their Prime Video reality series, where they showed they were working on themselves and their marriage, even sharing couples therapy sessions. The question, here - as always when talking about social media-born figures who, as a systematic work choice, blur the lines between public and private - is always the same: does the fact that they have exposed themselves justify the feast on their lives that has been happening in recent months?

A Matter of Humanity

In our opinion, the answer, in short, is no. While we cannot control how individual users talk about them - often getting carried away by emotions and pretending to know people they actually don't - we can object to the newspapers, to authoritative sources of information, to their choice of words, expressions, approaches. To what the public figures who are their enemies do. Because if the Ferragnez have played with blurred lines, skillfully blending and mixing the personal and the professional, then we should become smarter than them, and make this effort of separation, for a simple matter of humanity. Objections to their actions should be limited to the professional sphere, trying not to touch the personal and private one. And even if these interviews, like many other things, turn out to be a very clever marketing move, then we could discuss it again. Until then, we could even limit ourselves to silence, avoiding the vulture-like attitude.
