Miu Miu's Tales & Tellers installation comes to New York
Miu Miu continues to explore contemporary femininity through performances and video projections
May 8th, 2025
Miu Miu has always thrived in the in-between. Between fashion, art, and cinema. Between gesture and narrative. Between vision and matter. With Tales & Tellers, the maison’s latest immersive installation, the brand adds a new chapter to its ongoing exploration of contemporary femininity, understood as a living, ever-evolving organism. After its Paris debut during Art Basel 2024, the site-specific work comes back to life, and gives life, again in New York, at the industrial heart of the Terminal Warehouse, 261 11th Avenue. Open to the public on May 10 and 11, 2025, with a private preview on the 9th, this new iteration becomes an urban dreamscape: a city reinvented through a nocturnal and surreal gaze. Tales & Tellers unfolds like a sensorial mosaic. A slow choreography of performances, physical installations, and video projections, where each fragment contributes to a broader narrative—a shared memory tied to women’s bodies, language, and gaze. The creative vision is by Miuccia Prada, the project conceived by Goshka Macuga and curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, with performance direction by Fabio Cherstich and the physical installation designed by OMA / AMO.
Storytelling as an Act of Aesthetic Resistance
The title, Tales & Tellers, evokes storytelling as a cultural act and a means of transmitting knowledge. But also the concrete presence of those who tell the stories: the female figures who, film after film, runway after runway, have inhabited Miu Miu’s aesthetic and political universe. From each work in the Miu Miu Women’s Tales series (from 2011 to today) and from the artistic interventions in the collections between Spring/Summer 2022 and Spring/Summer 2025, a character emerges. And from that emergence, a transformation. Each figure is reinterpreted live by an actor, against a backdrop of original archival footage. All under the visionary direction of Fabio Cherstich.
Paris and New York: Two Emotional Geographies
If in Paris the performance evoked a civic space, a public square animated by connections and encounters, the New York edition shifts tone and intensity. Here, the streets become hallucinatory stages, psychic landscapes where the underground currents of identity surface and take shape. The Terminal Warehouse becomes a narrative crossroads: walls breathe stories, and night becomes metaphor. The city, in its layered anonymity, becomes the very body of the story. Each of the 36 performances digs into the threshold between fiction and reality, between personal memory and collective imagination.
A Visual Atlas of Femininity
Tales & Tellers is also an archive, a poetic device. Alongside the performances, the installation includes a full screening of all the films in the Women’s Tales series: a cinematic corpus celebrating the female gesture of creation, narration, and appearance. In each piece, femininity is approached as a multifaceted matter—fragile and powerful, political and intimate. In this hybrid space, between fashion, cinema, and art, Miu Miu continues its visual storytelling journey. And invites its audience to recognize the transformative power of female narratives.
