How much do skin diseases affect the quality of life? Everything about the PRIDD method
On the occasion of the EADV Congress (European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology), held in Paris in September 2025, dermatologists from around the world were introduced to a new “Quality of Life” scale, the PRIDD™ scale (Patient-Reported Impact of Dermatological Diseases), through a clinical study supported by Eau Thermale Avène. This scale represents a significant step forward in assessing the impact of dermatological disorders on patients’ lives. Co-developed by GlobalSkin, the Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Cardiff University, and over 5,600 patients, it is a new fully validated multidimensional scale that provides a comprehensive overview of the physical, psychological, and social impacts on patients’ lives, applicable to any skin condition.
What is the PRIDD scale used for and how is it applied to skin diseases?
The PRIDD™ scale has been validated by patients from 96 countries and covers 102 skin disorders, demonstrating its global relevance and applicability. The DLQI (Dermatology Life Quality Index) has long been the benchmark for measuring the impact of dermatological diseases on patients’ quality of life. The PRIDD™ scale also integrates psychological and social dimensions to provide a more holistic evaluation of the challenges patients face. Moreover, it is the only tool in dermatology that meets all seven COSMIN (Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments) criteria.

This tool allows us to better understand skin conditions and unmet patient needs. I am deeply grateful to our network of partners and patient organizations for supporting the development of this new scale. We are excited to see it being adopted by clinicians, healthcare professionals, patients, and companies to improve the lives of those living with the physical and psychological impacts of skin diseases.”

With the support of Eau Thermale Avène
Anne-Laure Nguyen, Brand Director of Eau Thermale Avène, added: “We are proud to have supported GlobalSkin in the development and validation of PRIDD™. This collaboration perfectly reflects the raison d’être and medical mission of Eau Thermale Avène: to care for skin disorders and improve the quality of life of people affected by dermatological conditions.” Dr. Gautier Doat, Medical Director at Eau Thermale Avène, concluded: “Being the first brand to integrate the PRIDD™ scale into our clinical studies allows us to better understand patients and dermatoses. We firmly believe that this scale, developed in collaboration with patients and validated globally, is an essential tool to understand not only physical symptoms but also the broader impact of dermatological disorders. We have observed significant symptom reductions, up to 82% in some PRIDD™ parameters. This collaboration with GlobalSkin enables us to share data and integrate the evaluation of Eau Thermale Avène dermocosmetic product efficacy in a more holistic, comprehensive, and patient-centered way.” With the PRIDD™ scale, Eau Thermale Avène reaffirms its commitment to promoting a more human, scientific, and inclusive dermatology, in service of those living every day with skin diseases.
