The nostalgia for Disney Channel continues: it's time for Camp Rock 3 From August 13, the new chapter of the saga produced by Demi Lovato arrives on Disney

We said it in March 2026, when the Hannah Montana special came out: this is the year of those nostalgic for Disney Channel. There have been many revivals that have come to life between stages and audiovisual, and Camp Rock 3, from August 13 on Disney, is an extension of a wave that Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers had already ridden some time ago when they performed together during a tour to the tune of This Is Me. The event sees them return to the film saga in the guise of a producer and also an interpreter (with a few surprises, of course).
Between legacy and revival: the High School Musical model
Then there is a way and a way to revive a phenomenon: if Miley Cyrus chose the path of remembrance celebrating her Hannaversary, for Camp Rock it was decided to rely on the resumption of her legacy, on the arrival of new talents that replace the old, while carrying on their work with respect. A formula that starting from 2019 High School Musical: The Musical - The series has taken, used, but also a bit reversed, with the show set in a universe in which the film with Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and everyone else exists as such and was shot in the East High School in Salt Lake City by the current protagonists, who decide to re-stage it with their theatrical circle.
Choosing a classic sequel for the franchise
The solution of High School Musical: The Musical - The series has allowed the title enormous freedom and above all to have its own identity, also launching stars who in turn have become well-known names worldwide such as Olivia Rodrigo. Unlike its competing title, Camp Rock has opted for a more classic sequel that follows some rules that it is good to respect when deciding to exhume such a canonical world with reference to a certain imaginary: an attempt to move forward without forgetting who the pillars of one's past were, conforming to and keeping faith with the directives of the characters both yesterday and today, that is, to ensure that the goal is always and only to have fun.
The rules of nostalgia and teen storytelling
This also includes the transferability typical of this type of work. There is no consistency in the behavior of the protagonists, much less a connection between actions and implications, let alone the consequences. Everything happens only because it must happen, and it is totally useless to wonder what are the logical links that link causes to effects. What matters at this juncture are a few, simple rules: that the new protagonists are captivating, that the musical moments work and that nostalgia is well integrated into the narrative of the new entries, enough not to miss the main characters, but not too pronounced not to remind us that a first film always tends to be better than a second, a third or a quarter - even when the quality at stake is that of the Disney Channel titles.
The new generation of protagonists and the confrontation with the past
So the new protagonists bring their talent, good enthusiasm and an iconicity that is unlikely to touch the heights of passion and embarrassment that these films needed to create a solid fanbase. Yes, we are thinking of the famous ballet led by Demi Lovat or in Camp Rock 2 in which they fought their hands and feet in time, a moment so absurd that it is still mentioned, especially on the Internet. Perhaps also because today's teenagers and pre-teens are not the same as they used to spend hours and hours in front of the television, first of all because TV in itself has become a medium less aimed at a lower age group and because there is no longer a single basin in which everyone flows as was the case with Disney Channel. And let's face it: perhaps, with all this social aesthetic, they are even less cringe than we were ourselves.
The return of the Jonas Brothers and the Gen Z and Millennials target
Disney Channel was a space that allowed Lovato & Co. to find its audience growing together, so much so that it brought Camp Rock back into the spotlight almost twenty years later and making one wonder who will be the target that will most welcome the film, whether the new young people or the Gen Z/Millennials veterans. With the return also of the Jonas Brothers, who thanks to the film were able to make the leap in their careers, in the third film we see them looking for a new talent in the summer musical camp to join them to open their own concerts such as Connect 3. A reunion with brothers that is always unexpectedly pleasant because it is never forced. We were surprised during the last Christmas holidays with the movie A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, also on Disney, and we still are, with the band that seems to have serious fun wrinkling and lightening its image, with friction and re-pacification that take place in any group, even more so if formed by a trio of brothers.
The passing of the baton to the new theater kids
So take the guitars on your shoulders, the notebooks with your songs in your hand and bring back to mind the memory of who you were while watching the first Camp Rock. Now is the time for the new generations and who knows what will be left of the theater kids of the revisited Disney Channel in a few years: those that were once us and that sometimes it's nice to pull out.
