How to tell if you can trust astrological advice

Are you going to make decisions based on the stars? This article is for you

How to tell if you can trust astrological advice Are you going to make decisions based on the stars? This article is for you

Every New Year, there’s an onslaught of astrology predictions looking at the year ahead. These predictions advise you on everything from what colors to stay away from to how to steer your career to what to do in your love life. While astrology is one of the biggest and hottest trends, especially among Gen Z, we haven’t necessarily been taught the tools to be astrology-literate in this New Age of spirituality. Many magazines, including ours, produce themed content and have entire website sections dedicated to stars in a playful manner. However, if you want to consult the skies to understand what to do in serious situations, we recommend turning to professionals with certifications and diplomas.

Here are 5 tips to becoming astrology-savvy in 2024 so you can evaluate all of your year-ahead predictions.

Research your astrologer

Do they have a relevant degree or certificate from studying astrology? You might be surprised to know that there are accredited programs to become a certified astrologer. Do a little digging behind the scenes and look at who is writing those articles predicting “what you need less of in 2024” before you start implementing their advice into your life.

Get a second opinion

Astrology is rooted in the mapping of the stars and planets, looking at the angle of how they appear in the sky and at their movements. However, the interpretation of those celestial bodies differs from astrologer to astrologer. Think of it like interpreting a painting — everyone, even those who study fine art, will have different interpretations of the same piece. While there might be overlap in the predictions you receive, and there probably should be, the exact bits of advice, especially when they get very specific, should be considered carefully and cross-referenced.

Be intentional and mindful with predictions

As mentioned, everyone’s interpretation of astrological events is different, but that doesn’t mean that someone is a “fake.” It just means that their view of the cosmos is different from someone else. When you’re reading any astrological prediction or getting a reading from an astrologer, think through what it is you’re hoping to get clarity on and be mindful of how you take in the information. Be specific and set intentions.

Think twice before paying for anything

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who could take advantage of you, selling you something false just to make a quick buck. Before “booking a reading” with any astrologer, see if you can find any reviews of their readings online or ask friends in the community. If you do end up booking a private reading, know that there are a few different considerations to keep in mind. Natal chart readings take a lot of prep time for an astrologer, so if their rates seem expensive, it could be because there are a few hours before your session that they take to fully understand both who you are and the recent planetary movements and how they affect you in order to give you the best reading possible. Additionally, you shouldn’t ever be asked for more money in the middle of a reading. All readings should have a set price, agreed upon at the beginning before your session. Be careful, and watch out for any scams.

Trust your gut

It’s easier said than done, especially when you’re looking to the universe for guidance, but sometimes you know what’s right for you and what isn’t. Astrologers and astrology are great tools for getting another perspective on life and the universe, but nothing is set in stone. Everything can change from one moment to the next. Remember that if you get a reading that doesn’t sit right with you or you read a prediction that feels a little off, it might not have been meant for you. Take it with a grain of salt, and always stay true to what you believe in.
