Now that the release date is getting closer and closer, curiosity is rising and rumors about plots and outfits are also multiplying. In the new episodes, Lily Collins will have the opportunity to deepen her character and make a real full immersion in her new French life, but there will also be many other news.

If you want to find out everything that will happen in Season 2, read on.

Release date

On May 3 in a short video, which combined images taken directly from the set and the homes of the actors, the cast of the Netflix series announced the start of filming for the new season, which, according to Variety Insight ended on July 19. "We're back, back, back!" Shout enthusiastically Emily, Sylvie, Mindy, Gabriel, Julien, Luc, Camille and Antonie, confirming that in the new episodes we will return all the protagonists of the first season, including, in addition to the character played by Lily Collins, her friends, her colleagues and the handsome French chef with who she is in love with. Soon, on December 22, 2021, when the series will be available for streaming on Netflix, it will be our turn to shout "They're back, back, back!"

There will be new locations

As shown by the first posts of Lily Collins, Ashley Park and Camille Razat the comeback of Emily & co. starts from the popular tourist destination of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, in southern France, the first stop in a series of new locations that we will see in Season 2. Leaked rumors so far suggest that the young American will explore other cities in addition to Paris, which remains central to the show.

From the beginning we always wanted to create this beautiful cinematic view of Paris. - Said series creator Darren Star. - The timing of the series release was fortuitous for us as everyone around the world was able to become armchair travelers and live vicariously through our cast. We could not be more proud and are excited to bring more joy to our fans as we start production on season two.

While in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Collins hypothesized a series of adventures around Europe for her character:

At some point, I was joking with Darren and said, "Couldn't they just, like, hop on the Eurostar and, like, have a British excursion". I think it could be Emily going to all these different places. It's Emily in … and then insert the city. She could just take the train and go all over Europe, and Mindy and her could go together.

What will the new season be about?

If you have seen the first season of Emily in Paris, there is only one thing you will want to know: what will happen between Emily and Gabriel? Will the American follow her feelings for the hot chef or will she prefer her friendship with Camille? And what will happen to her flirtation with businessman Mathieu Cadault? Interviewed by British Vogue, Lily Collins herself admitted to have some doubts:

I honestly don’t know if Camille knows about what’s going on with Gabriel. That voicemail in the finale threw me off. And it’s interesting because, in the series, there are tonnes of little moments where you’re like,"Does Camille like Emily?" You can’t really get a vibe, and I feel like that ambiguity is what keeps Emily intrigued. I think anyone in that position would be like, you’re my friend, but now I have this romantic connection [with Gabriel], and I don’t want to hurt you, but…" Oh my God! So, you know what, it’s really confusing. I feel like Emily In Paris season two will only create more love triangle drama, although maybe Emily will have a little bit of a stronger handle on the situation… Or maybe not.

In the second season trailer, a possible new boyfriend pops up for Emily named Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), "a 30-year-old, London-born, sarcastic charmer who refuses to immerse himself in French culture and instead prefers a pint at an English-speaking pub". Will the charming Englishman be able to make the young fashionista forget about Gabriel? We'll find out in the new 10 episodes. If Miss Cooper's love sphere is still shrouded in mystery, we know that in season two we will see her more committed to her career and more comfortable in her Parisian life.

In season 2, she's going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she's living in. - Explained Darren Star on Emily's future - She'll be more of a resident of the city. She'll have her feet on the ground a little more. She's making a life there.

While Lily would like to explore her character's past:

The first season, we only had ten episodes to really explore her new friends at work and who she meets outside of work. So, I’m excited to dive deeper into those backstories and spend more time intermingling the two groups of people that she meets. - The actress told Deadline - Now that we’ve seen her with all these ‘Parisisms’, maybe we get to actually get to a bit more of her backstory, and experience that with some of the other characters.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Star also added that there will be a lot more space devoted to secondary characters in future episodes:

I’d like to explore so much more of the supporting cast, like Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays Emily’s boss, I think we’ve just scratched the surface of who she is and what makes her tick. I certainly have a lot of thoughts about where I’d like to see things going.

Though we all hope the young American follows the words her boss Sylvie gives her in the trailer: "You’ve got the rest of your life to be as dull as you wish, but while you’re here fall in love, make mistakes. If you’re gonna do Paris for one year, for God’s sake, do it right!"

The new outfits

Although they have often been criticized as being too stereotypical, it is undeniable that part of the success of Emily in Paris is due to the outfits worn by Emily and the rest of the cast. Fashion will maintain its central role even in the second season, as shown by the first images coming from the set. Among the looks, created by Patricia Fields (legendary costume designer of Sex and the City), that the young American girl and her friends wore during the filming in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, in the south of France, we can find a summer mini dress with mix'n match prints, combined with a black and white bucket hat; a turquoise bikini; a lilac dress full of ruffles; a checked trench coat and many oversized sunglasses recalling Hollywood divas such as Audrey Hepburn.
