Who are the most searched celebrities on Google in 2022? It involves a controversial trial, a slap on the wrist, two red carpet queens and a real royal

This year saw plenty of celebrity news. From blossoming and bursting couples to celebrity deaths, from controversial court cases to slaps that went viral, from red carpet glamour to goodbyes in the sports and fashion worlds. All events made us curious, prompting us to Google gossip and details. But whose name have we clicked on the most since January 1? New research conducted by the website CelebTattler tried to answer that and analyzed the Google search data (related to the States) of more than 150 celebrities, revealing the names of the most popular stars in 2022

At the top two places on the list, with an impressive 5,651,700 and 5,565,100 average monthly searches, respectively, are Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. What got the two actors and former spouses to the top was surely the hype related to the court battle that saw them clash for months in court, amid shock revelations and fan craziness, a spectacle so "gory" that it was almost hypnotic and turned into a real movie. Culminating in June with Depp being awarded $15 million by his ex, it brought the star of The Pirates of the Caribbean back into Hollywood's good graces with movie and guest appearances such as the one at Savage Fenty's latest show. While, despite, the curiosity aroused, the media battage has discredited the figure of Heard who, at least at the moment, has preferred to focus on her private life.

One of the most important events of the year was certainly the death of Elizabeth II. Britain's longest-serving monarch passed away in September at the age of 96, after seven decades on the throne, which earned her 4,294,300 Google searches on average each month. Equally memorable, at least for American football fans, was Tom Brady's retirement from the NFL, which, with 4,061,900 clicks, ranks fourth, driven in part by his recent divorce announcement from Gisele Bündchen. Another couple that has broken up is Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson, in fifth and sixth place (3,479,700 and 3,291,000). The two have been together for a few months, just long enough to parade together on the red carpet of the Met Gala, during which Kim turned into a modern Marilyn Monroe, and to infuriate Kanye West. Kim and Pete drifted apart apparently due to too many commitments, but have remained on good terms. She is now increasingly focused on her career and has just won the Innovation Award given by the CFDA with her brand Skims, while Pete has started dating Emily Ratajkowski.

Current events and, in particular, the very recent controversial takeover of Twitter resulted in Elon Musk totaling 3,193,000 monthly Google searches; while Will Smith's slap to Chris Rock on the Oscar stage garnered the Man in Black actor 3,155,900 searches, placing him at No. 8 in the rankings. Rounding out the top ten most popular celbs of 2022 are two young Hollywood stars who have managed to win the public's favor through a mix of talent, interesting projects, and bold looks. In ninth place, with 2,782,600 average monthly searches, is Millie Bobby Brown, the beloved Eleven from Stranger Things. The actress, who a few weeks ago declared that she would like to play Britney Spears in a biopic, has been in the spotlight not only for the new season of the Netflix series, but also for her beauty brand Florence by Mills, her lovestory with Jon Bon Jovi's son, and for showing a series of very different make-up and outfits that are, for some, too hot compared to her age and the clean image with which she became famous. Tenth place, however, for Zendaya with 2,718,300 average monthly searches. The year 2022 for the Euphoria star was marked by spectacular gowns, chosen with the advice of stylist Law Roach, and a first at the Emmys as the youngest actress to win twice in the best leading actress category. Are you wondering where Harry Styles has gone? The newly single singer failed to make the top 10, only the top 15.
