Natasha Cloud is the first-ever woman basketball player to sign with Converse
Brand commitment to the Black community and female empowerment is confirmed by the choice of the athlete and activist

Natasha Cloud, the guard of the Washington Mystics and the new member of the Famila Schio, has signed a deal with Converse, becoming the first women's basketball player to join the brand's line-up. The company announced that it chose the athlete not only for her talent on the court, but also for her support for women, the LGBTQ+ community and her commitment to fighting racial injustice.
After the death of George Floyd, Cloud, who participated in the weekend protests in Philadelphia, wrote a piece for the Players Tribune entitled Your Silence is a Knee on My Neck urging the other athletes to stand up.
The biggest thing is for me to use my platform as a microphone.- She stated- That’s the goal, be a voice for the voiceless.
Ronald Johnson, general manager of global basketball at Converse, which recently pledged $40 million over four years to the black community through its Nike, Inc. parent company, told the Washington Post:
Natasha Cloud’s recent piece is one of many examples of integrity, grace and strength she brings to the Converse team. We stand in solidarity with the black community, with our athletes, collaborators and our teammates, and we commit to act.
