Raffaella Carrà was one of the first Italian showgirls worthy of the name. A TV host, dancer, choreographer, philanthropist, and an LGBT icon, she remains one of the most recognizable faces of Italian television, but also an international pop star who, a year after her death on July 5, 2021, continues to remain in the hearts of so many that, following a survey of Italians, the State Polygraphic Institute decided to dedicate a coin to her. Every year, in fact, the Euro Zone has the option of minting 2-euro coins for celebratory and commemorative purposes, dedicating them to a historical event or to a person who has been important to the country as happened in 2022 for the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus program or for the 30th anniversary of the death of Paolo Borsellino and Giovanni Falcone. This time to enrich the catalog of collectible numismatics will be the face of Carrà, which will end up on the 2-euro coin in circulation probably next year.

First to spread the news was Fabio Canino, during the Dogliani TV Festival where he was presenting the book RaffaBook dedicated to the showgirl. The State Mint's tribute (not yet officially announced) is just the latest in a series of tributes to Carrà that have followed in recent months. To the eclectic artist a square in Madrid has been dedicated (or will soon be dedicated), confirming her popularity in Spain, and a square in Rome, the Bellaria waterfront where she grew up as a child and the entire RAI production center in Via Teulada, also in Rome, which is where she produced so many of her shows.
