Kim Kardashian turns 42. For a decade she appears in every social media and magazine worldwide. A former assistant to Paris Hilton, from whom she learned the art of making people talk about herself everywhere, even without any sensational facts to report, she became first a reality show star, with KUWTK, then Kanye West's (ex) wife, mother of four children (North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm) and a successful businesswoman.

Armenia

A native Armenian, Mrs Kardashian West takes every opportunity to recognize her ethnic background: professionally, aiming to increase trade and employment in Armenia with her products, but also personally, emphasizing the importance of culture for her family, so much so that she baptized her three youngest children in her father's homeland. Kim Kardashian recently made a donation of $1 million to Armenia Fund, an NGO founded in Los Angeles that provides humanitarian aid in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, calling on its followers to do the same.

 

Body Shape

If Kim and her belfies offered an alternative to the extreme thinness that was rampant in the early 2000s among model celebrities, from Nicole Ritchie to the Olsen twins, embodying a more shapely aesthetic model that can be traced back to the prosperity of the natural bodies of black women, today with naturalness and pride her hourglass silhouette has returned dry and almost unattainable. Kim reportedly underwent a reverse BBL, removing the implants that gave her fame and popularity, reversing the Body Positivity process that she also began a few years ago through SKIMS. Although her brand offers a wide selection of sizes and chooses women of different ethnicities and physicalities as models, Kim today continues to shape the perception of body shapes in vogue in the 21st century with her aesthetic changes, along with her sisters.

 

Contouring

Someone wrote that Kim was then the Mona Lisa of contouring and Mario Dedivanovic, her make-up artist, Leonardo. It was the couple, in fact, who perfected and popularized the corrective make-up technique which gives life to absolutely flawless make-up. Their secrets for perfect contouring? It starts with a well-moisturized face base to make the skin with the products of the Rodial line. Then, you go on with a play of light and shadow to sculpt the cheekbones and rebalance the volumes of the face. The last step is baking with Ben Nye Banana powder to fix the whole thing and illuminate the area under the eyes.

 

Daddy's Girl

Everyone knows Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, but many people do not know that her father, Robert Kardashian, was a prestigious lawyer, famous for having defended his friend O.J. Simpson from the charge of uxoricide. From his dad, who passed away in 2003, the most popular of the Kardashian-Jenner clan inherited a passion for the law, so much so that, in recent years, he decided to undertake the apprenticeship path to become a lawyer. In an interview she said:

"I want to go to law school. I want to help people. Let me work for the next ten years and build my brands, and then one day, ten years from now, I will stop being Kim K. and become a lawyer."

 

Empire

Empire is not only the name of the favorite TV series of the couple Kardashian West. Empire is also the term that best defines the economic success it has achieved in the last decade. Thanks to her many partnerships, the reality show KUWTK, but, above all, SKKN BY KIM, KKW Fragrance, SKIMS and her skills as a businesswoman, she has been able to accumulate a personal fortune valued at around 900 million dollars.

 

First Lady

For a while, we believed that if Kanye West would one day become the future President of the United States, Kim would be his First Lady. While waiting for that day to come, the businesswoman had even practised to play that role to the best of her ability. The first step was to be Jackie Kennedy for an Interview fashion editorial in which even North was involved. The second and more concrete action of her training was to commit to prison reform and the system of sentencing, discriminating especially when it comes to African-Americans.  This social battle took her all the way to the White House, where she met Trump to intercede on behalf of an inmate, Alice Johnson, sentenced to life imprisonment for a non-violent drug-related crime. May Kim, without Kanye, succeed in becoming president of the US herself?

 

Givenchy

A few seasons ago, all around the world Instagram feeds were invaded by a shower of stars wearing total looks from Givenchy's latest SS21 collection designed by Matthew Williams. Among them there was also Kim in a daring thong dress. Her love for the French fashion house grew for several years, since Riccardo Tisci, her friend and fan, was still in charge of the creative direction. The digital entrepreneur chose his clothes on several occasions, including her wedding day with Kanye.

 

Halloween

Halloween is a favorite holiday for the Kardashian-Jenner clan. Over the years Kim has dressed up as Aaliyah, Cher, Anna Wintour, Poison Ivy, Little Red Riding Hood, Wonder Woman and Princess Jasmine. Her most memorable costume? Reese Witherspoon and her most famous character, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. Not a random choice, since like the girl who loves pink, Mrs Kardashian West is also pursuing her law studies.

 

Instagram

Together, the Kardashian-Jenner clan has over 774 million followers on Instagram. Kim alone has 190 million, a mind-blowing number of people who follow and comment on every post and every action the daring star does, from fitting a dress to breakfast, from a day with the kids to the red carpet at the Met Gala. If the TV has put the spotlight on her, it was IG that made her the most popular contemporary pop-icon in America, so much so that the CFDA awarded her the first Influencer Award. 

 

Jean Paul Goude

Jean-Paul Goude is the author of the shots with which Kim broke the Internet. The famous French artist photographed the star for Paper magazine, highlighting her B-side: with and without a black PVC evening dress, while holding a glass of champagne on her backside. The pose recalls a photo taken in 1082 by Goude himself to model Caroline Beaumont, inspired by Saartjie Baartman shots of a South African woman with such an incredible butt that she was a freak show attraction in 19th century London.

 

Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Kim has spent her entire life in the golden world of Beverly Hills, between exclusive parties, luxury cars, the finest clothes and accessories. That elite lifestyle was upgraded when the E! cable network aired the first episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians on October 14, 2007. In over a decade, reality has helped family members become successful businesswomen, especially Kim. From the early seasons when she was a 20-year-old haunted by the ghost of her sex tape, sidelined as a second-level celebrity who spent her time between godmother gigs at motor shows and shopping sessions with Paris Hilton, Kim has emerged as an established celebrity with assets valued approximately $900 million. 

 

Los Angeles

Los Angeles is Kim's hometown. She grew up in Beverly Hills, but, when she married Kanye West she lives in Hidden Hills. Together with her ex husband, an architecture enthusiast, and minimalist guru Axel Vervoordt, she converted the property purchased in 2014 for $20 million into "a futuristic Belgian monastery", where cream-colored bare surfaces reign supreme and all the furniture is minimized, made of light and natural materials, with pieces designed by Vervoordt himself combined with works by Pierre Jeanneret and other greats of design. She recently bought Cindy Crawford's former villa for 70.4 million dollars.

 

Met Gala

Miss Kardashian has become one of the most anticipated, admired and criticised guests to walk the red carpet at the Met Gala. In 2022, Kim attracted the attention of photographers by climbing the staircase leading to the museum entrance completely transformed into Marilyn Monroe. Kim went blonde and sported the same nude dress studded with embroidered rhinestones that the diva wore in 1962, three months before her death, to sing "Happy Birthday" to US President J. F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden. In previous editions, she has alternated between different outfits and brands: from the total look by Balenciaga to the customised Thierry Mugler dress as a tribute to the one worn by Sophia Loren in the 1957 film Boy on a Dolphin, from the Versace long dress full of gold glitter, inspired by the Atelier Versace FW97 collection, to the silver Balmain with side slit; from the total white minimalist by Vivienne Westwood to the feathered garment by Roberto Cavalli, to the blue dress by Lanvin chosen in 2014. Memorable, though not successful, the debut of 2013. For her first Met Gala, Kim chose a creation by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, a high-necked floral dress with long sleeves and split thigh that sparked criticism and a shower of memes. The most positive comments compared the influencer to a sofa. Kim, who was pregnant with North at the time, later confessed to crying the whole way home.

 

Naked selfie

Kim is proud of her body and has always exhibited it without any fear, as a sign of empowering. She posted a stream of naked selfies, belfies and other details showing her beauty, although lately she's been trying to limit that kind of shots.  In a recent interview with The Cut she said: 

It is as if I woke up. I realised I could not even scroll through Instagram in front of my kids without full nudity coming up on my feed pretty much all the time. And I definitely contributed to that. 

Oufits

Her favorite designers are Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain, Givenchy, Mugler, Vivienne Westwood and Versace. Kim often mixes their outfits, corsets, shaping lingerie, slip dresses with athletic pieces, often by Yeezy. Among her essentials, in fact, there are also crop tops, biker shorts, sweatshirts and bodysuits that she loves to match with high boots or sneakers.  

 

Paris Hilton

In 2006, Paris Hilton had had a fight with Nicole Richie and needed a new BFF to go out shopping and attend the top parties in L.A. For a while, that role was played by the girl who was decluttering at her closet, Kim Kardashian. The two shared a huge bank account, a love of designer labels and the talent for catching the attention of paparazzi with the mere merit of being famous for being famous. From the early 2000s until today the girls have been dating less and less, but recently the two friends are back together for the latest SKIMS campaign.

Although she is now trying to sound more serious and intellectual, Kim is famous for her not-so-brilliant statements. Here are three of the most absurd:

Robbery

The worst moment Mrs Kardashian West has experienced in recent years, if we exclude Kanye's deliriums on Twitter, was the robbery that took place on October 3, 2016. Kim was in France for the PFW a group of men disguised as policemen broke into her hotel room, tied her up, pointed a gun to her temple and stole away a ring worth 4 million dollars, a jewelry box worth 5 million euros and two phones. 

 

SKIMS

SKIMS  is Kim's solution wear brand. Created to allow all women to harmonize the silhouette without sacrificing comfort, enhancing curves and supporting the body, the range of shaping and containing underwear promotes diversity and inclusiveness, offering a range of 11 sizes ranging from XXS to 4XL and 9 colors available for each garment divided by skin tone. Among the SKIMS must-have garments are Solution Shorts, one-leg shorts designed to be worn under deep slit skirts, but also the Open Bust Slim Dress, a tight-fitting petticoat that creates a sort of contouring effect on the body. Among the novelties launched by the brand these days there is also a velour tracksuits line, presented with an advertising campaign in which Kim and Paris Hilton are the stars.

 

Thierry Mugler

Kim Kardashian West's love for vintage clothes is well documented. The reality star loves to revisit some of fashion's most beloved collections and fills her wardrobe with pieces from the 1990s and early 2000s. She has worn minidress from Versace's FW97 collection, Jean-Paul Gaultier's SS94 tattoo leggings and, above all, many garments by Thierry Mugler, the designer she also chose for her latest Met Gala look, helping to bring the brand back into the spotlight.

 

US Vogue

When, in 2014, Kim and her future husband Kanye, appeared dressed as newlyweds (she in Lanvin, although on the day of the yes she wore a Givenchy) in a cover of Vogue US shot by Anne Leibovitz, the fashonistas from around the world rose up against Anna Wintour. The director responded to the criticism:

Vanessa Beecroft

Multidisciplinary artist Vanessa Beecroft has worked with Kanye West for more than a decade. Their paths crossed for the first time for the release of the album 808s & Heartbreak, in 2014 they worked together on the video of the track Only One and Yeezy's first shows. In 2018 Beecroft lent her talent to another family member, Kim. The artist took pictures of the campaign for the launch of KKW Body perfume, which became famous for the bottle that recalls the shapes of the celebrity's body. 

 

West, Kanye

Kim and Kanye divorced, but were together for a decade. They met for the first time on the set of a music video of Brandy. He immediately falls in love with her and courts her even though Kim is still married to Kris Humphries. In the end she divorces and starts a love affair with the rapper. Between ups and downs, four children, many shots together, quarrels and declarations of reciprocal love, their marriage, celebrated in Italy, goes on.

 

X-Rated

Kim's love past has been quite turbulent. Three husbands, some flirting and a sex tape that seems to be the most-watched porn of all time. It was 2007 when Vivid Entertainment released the private performance of the KUWTK star and with the then boyfriend Ray-J, just over 40 minutes that went viral and brought the Kardashian to fame. In the last 13 years, speculation about who really leaked the video has multiplied, sometimes accusing Kim herself, sometimes her momager, what is apparently sure is that Kanye West's wife and Ray-J still cashes in about $360,000 a year thanks to those hot sequences.

 

Yeezy

Kim is Yeezy's most important brand ambassador. The businesswoman supports her husband and often wears the neutral tones items he designs. Several years ago, to return the favor, West filled L.A. with clones of Kim, stars of the Yeezy Season 6 campaign.
